Raspberries
Raspberries are more versatile than strawberries, and can be successfully frozen and processed.
British raspberries are remarkable for their firmness and good keeping quality. They are packed with vitamin C and are delicious eaten straight from the punnet. They can be made into a multitude of desserts with their rich colour giving a wonderful eye catching appeal that cannot be resisted.
Raspberries are currently grown on 2,327 ha in the UK, which produce in excess of 12,700 tonnes. This includes fresh and processed fruit.
Although raspberries are traditionally seen as a late summer crop, growers are now using varieties and innovative growing methods to extend the season to provide this popular fruit season from mid April to December.
